چکیده
there are limitations to simply increasing the switch buffer size, in that large full buffers cause unwanted latency, especially problematic in WAN environments. We plan to explore the RED gateway strategy of Floyd and Jacobson [9], which can be used as part of a feedback rate control mechanism to send information back to the sender and to limit the size of switch buffer queues. Whether the performance benefits of any such more complicated scheme will warrant the additional implementation costs is a subject of further study.
